ICYMI: New-Ish St. Louis Music From Dave Brickey & The 40 Pass

In the ever-evolving tapestry of St. LOUIS music, it's a rare joy to witness the Creation of something that feels both novel and nostalgic.

Dave Brickey & The 40 Pass, a St. Louis power-pop group, achieved just this with their debut EP, "Adjusted Memories," released this month last year. In the spirit of nostalgia, we’re revisiting newish St. Louis music that you may have missed.

Dave Brickey & The 40 Pass

I had the privilege of diving into this six-song journey, a blend of tunes that resonates with an authenticity often sought but seldom found.

Dave Brickey, a familiar in the St. Louis music scene, has a history as storied as the music he creates. From his early days as a singer, occasional bassist, and versatile roles in bands Grind Free Standing, The Rock-O-Planes, and The Lonesome Travelers, Brickey's musical journey is a testament to his dedication and love for the scene. His music career is filled with diverse collaborations ranging from The Stephanie Brickey Band, Earl, Vijoy Rao & the Removers, The Homewreckers, and Soma Jet Set, which culminated in an unexpected surge of creativity during the Covid lockdown. Teaming up with co-producer Terry Drake, they sculpted eighteen songs, from which "Adjusted Memories" was born.

This EP is not just a collection of songs; it's a mosaic of experiences and collaborations. Brickey called upon musicians Mike Fitzsimmons, Dan Niewohner, and Vijoy Rao, each bringing their unique flavor to the mix. The result is a vibrant, cohesive sound that celebrates the spirit of collaboration.

The tracklist of "Adjusted Memories" reads like chapters of a good book and the sound of each offers a glimpse into the group's range. The live lineup, featuring Brickey on vocals and guitars, Fitzsimmons on guitars, Jon Parsons on keys and bass, Dave Stallman on bass and guitars, and Rao on drums, brings great energy to the stage.

Let’s hope the group is up for more in 2024.

"Adjusted Memories" is available on all streaming platforms, with CDs purchasable through the group's website and at live performances.
